Manufacturers Tired of Swimming Upstream?

I can’t imagine how hard it must be for a Salmon to make its way back upstream!  So hard in fact, that they typically die just a few weeks after the journey!  In the same way every manufacturer is, or should be, working hard to push their product quality upstream…it takes some work but look at the bright side it most likely won’t kill you….

As a manufacturer in this competitive environment you cannot afford to add value and resources to a part that is defective, and the “cost of quality” when defective parts leave your dock can be staggering and in some case close the doors of a business.  So what’s the answer?  Hire masses of people to sit on stools and inspect every part before it leaves your facility?  Don’t laugh…you know if you walk out back in your plant right now you too have that area!  Well statistically speaking each of those costly employees is only going to be 80% effective at catching the defects in question so you do the math do determine the cost of a zero PPM?  The reality is you have to drive this effort upstream, and each operation must be validated in process so that batches of scrap cannot be created.  The additional cost of adding these critical quality checks upstream in your production equipment far outweigh the potential cost of even one bad part ending up on your customer’s floor.

At Superior Manufacturing Group we understand the importance of this key quality principle, and we work hard to provide more than just a piece of automation to the manufacturers we partner with.  We look at the overall product and consult to validate key quality characteristics before work and costs are added, and focus on adding multiple points of value with each handling of a part.
